What is a Christian

WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?

Ye must be born again! Without the new birth and the Spirit of Jesus Christ within we are none of his!
To be a Christian a person must be born again according to the Lord Jesus Christ. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. According to the Apostle Paul this occurs for a New Testament Christian when a person repents of their sin to God and places their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, as he is the propitiation for their sin. Acts 20: 20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house, 21Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

For those who will truly receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior they must be willing to repent of their sinfulness to God. See clearly the difference between Religion and Salvation in the parable of the Pharisee and the publican. Luke 18:9And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

When a person repents of their sin and has faith in the Lord Jesus Christ the Holy Spirit will perform a supernatural operation on them which is call the circumcision with out hands Col 2:10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; This supernatural operation places Jesus Christ within us through the operation of the Holy Spirit and seals us until the day of redemption.

Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ comes through receiving and believing the testimony and record of God's word. 1 Pet 1:23Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. With out the new birth and the Spirit of Jesus Christ within us we are not Christians according to the word of God. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
