TRUTH.    Sermon notes by Rev. George Burkinshaw

Joh 1:14  “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

The emerging church is a Christian Trinitarian movement of the late 20th and early 21st centuries that crosses a number of theological boundaries.  Participants can be described as Protestant, Post-Protestant, Catholic, Evangelical, Post-Evangelical,  Liberal, Post-Liberal, Conservative, Post-Conservative, Anabaptist, Adventist,  Reformed, Charismatic, Neo-Charismatic, and Post-Charismatic. Emerging churches can be found throughout the globe, predominantly in North America, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa.

Col 1:4  “Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, 5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth”

As we learned last week, learning the doctrine of the trinity avails us nothing if the trinity that we receive is not the true trinity of God. The Grace of God is given in the truth of God, and we must learn to love that truth if we are to love God! The spirit of the antichrist does not have a love of the truth nor a love of the true God!

2Th 2:10  “And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”

Truth is self evident. Truth is truthful. Truth is eternal. Truth is incontrovertible.  It is not only God's will that all men be saved, but that all men come to the knowledge of the truth of God. The emerging church has grace, but it does not have the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!

1 Timothy 2:4  “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”

Human knowledge may refute it, Human hatred may reject it, Human anger may refuse it, Human jealousy may resent it, Human conscience may dismiss it. However, the truth remains the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth!

Joh 14:6  “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Though the Lord Jesus Christ was God manifested in the flesh, the truth is that he was also made a human being, as we are, in his manifestation in the flesh!  Who in his humanity had to choose the way of truth, as that is the way of God!

Ps 119:30  “I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.”

The emerging church is a church of deceptive grace without truth, it is not a church of Grace and Truth!

Eph 4:11  “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ”

The work of the body of Jesus Christ is to convert souls to the truth of the Gospel.

Eph 1:12  “That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise”

It is not the truth of the Gospel to recruit men, that is the work of Pharisees!

Mt 23:15  “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.”

Recruiting may enlarge the numbers on the church rolls to bring earthly satisfaction and gain, however, it only enlarges the numbers of souls in hell!

Ps 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.”

The desperate heart of man is the issue, not the righteousness of God!

Ac 28:27  “For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.”

Repentance is first required for the soul to place faith in Jesus Christ!

Ac 20:21  “Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”

It is God's command not man's prerogative.

Ac 17:30  “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.”

The resurrection from the dead is the faith of our salvation!

Ro 10:9  “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Man's redemption is only in Christ Jesus through the grace of God! That grace is only found in his sacrifice of his blood on the cross!

Eph 1:7  “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace”

Our redemption is found in the shedding of his blood for our propitiation.

Col 1:14 “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins”

This redemption in substitution makes the Lord Jesus Christ our wisdom, our righteousness, our sanctification and our redemption.

1Co 1:30  “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption”

Godly wisdom is the choice of laudable ends in pleasing and glorifying God!

1Pe 3:15  “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear”

On a Wednesday night Bible study a member of our church asked an excellent question regarding a current issue facing the body of Jesus Christ! That question has tremendous ramifications which needs to be addressed by all saints! This question was given to him by the world, rejecting truth and not by the God of truth.  However, the question demands a full answer in truth!

Ec 12:10  “The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.”

The question was: ‘Is there an argument against the sin of homosexuality, beside the prohibitions found in the Bible?’ The answer is yes, as all truth is self-evident!

However, where that truth is self-evident and it should be given, it should also be understood that it has already been rejected and most often will not be entered into the court of human thought and heart, even though it is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!

Eph 5:12  “For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.”

“Political correctness or Phariseeism is the cunning art of circumventing the truth while appearing to defend the truth, and to support the truth, while making the truth evil and therefore under the curse of a Holy and righteous God!”

Isa 5:20  “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

It is only the light of the Gospel and the Light of God's word that can manifest the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth! After the rejection of self evident truth!

Eph 5:13  “But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.”

The shame of speaking of these things is to speak of them in a untruthful or accepting way.  It is not a shame to speak of them in truth and a way of truthful rejection!

Heb 6:8  “But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.”

      1. Homosexual marriage is a physical impossibility, two men or two women cannot reproduce a child that bears their image, the image of a human. The truth is that all men die and this truth requires reproduction! What of the world’s overpopulation?
Well what if you have aborted the soul with warp drive?

      2. Life expectancy at age 20 years for Homosexual and bisexual men is 8 to 21 years less than for all men. If the same pattern of mortality continued, we estimated that nearly half of homosexual and bisexual men currently aged 20 years would not reach their 65th birthday. It still remains about 47 years after billions of dollars of medical research diverted from birth defects!

      3. Living in a faithful, monogamous relationship with an uninfected partner is the only way to avoid STDs. Two virgins married to each other and faithful to each other in all things carnal will not, nor can be infected with std's. The bed is undefiled and the truth is self evident!

Heb 13:4  “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”

Common sense in the empirical scientific method brings the rational reasoning of a sound mind of the human soul to the conclusion that this alternate life style is extremely harmful and fatal to man and mankind, as is all sin!

Pr 8:36  “But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.”

      2. Abortion can be easily refuted in self-evident truth, the common sense is found in the empirical scientific method of demonstration, by simply showing the silent scream or any home video showing the brutality, demise, pain and death of the living thing found in the womb!

Ro 5:12  “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned”

      3. Adultery and divorce! Show us the hating the hurting of rejection!

Isa 53:3  “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”

That is the true cross of the Gospel ministry and the Gospel minister is to remain faithful to the truth of God's sacred word given to man for his redemption and his wellbeing!

Have you ever been rejected for truth?

1Pe 2:20  “For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.”

Facts and truth are very often rejected by men when found steeped in the lust of their hearts and their souls desire! I want it, I got to have it, I can't live without it!

Joh 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”

Further, it should be understood by the saints, that where truth is always self evident, when it is ignored or rejected, there is no other appeal than the word of God! It is man's second and last chance before his just judgment!

Lu 16:31  “And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”

The true issue of life is that most hearts reject truth, self evident or revealed, for the lust of the human souls desire! The human heart is desperately wicked, in that its selfish lusts and desires will undermined its own best interest.

Joh 18:38  “Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.”

That question is Pilates question and it is a valid question and it is to be answered with truth, as truth is self evident and God's word is truth!

Joh 17:17  “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

Yes, there is an argument of truth that is against Homosexuality, Abortion, and Adultery. Yes, every sin found in the Bible has a truth that is outside the Bible; that attests to the truth found in the Bible! Pilate’s truth of which he had to do stood in right in front of him! For at Pilates time, Jesus Christ had not risen from the dead and so to him and those about, he was but a man!

Joh 18:38  “Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.”

A man's true character is revealed by what he does in private, and how he treats those whom he has power over.

Php 2:15  “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world”

What good man or judge would condemn or allow the condemnation of a man who had done no wrong or harm? and that truth was by Pilate's own words!

Ac 13:41  “Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.”

Pilate found no fault in Jesus Christ.  The issue was his deity as the promised King of the Jews. Was he the God man and the promised messiah or he was an impostor?

Joh 19:12  “And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.”

The fact is there is a truth that is outside the Bible that supports every word of God in his word. It is just that some men cannot see it, because they will not see it, when the truth is standing right in front of their face!

Mt 7:12   “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”

No man is, nor can be fair, loving, just or righteous if he will ask for another that which he will not accept, ask or desire for himself! This is the universal truth of reciprocity!

Isa 59:14  “And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.”

The times are challenging, I have purposed in my heart to remain faithful to the truth of God's sacred word to the death. Will you walk with me in God's truth, harmless?

2Ti 4:3  “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”

Emerging churches are fluid, hard to define, and varied; they contrast themselves with what has gone before by using the term "inherited church." There are three categories within the Movement: Relevants, Reconstructionists and Revisionists.

2Co 10:15  “Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, 16 To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand. 17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.”

It is very often hard to define things that a subtle as Satan and his harlot in the daughters of the emerging church!

Pr 7:10  “And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.”

The inclusion doctrine of the world is a painful and frustrating doctrine for the body of  the Lord Jesus Christ to receive. Our responsibility in the LORD is to call out and convert; and if they will not convert then we are to pray and encourage, not recruit!

Mt 11:29  “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

We are to witness and to warn and seek out whosoever will, as eternal life is about a choice and eternal consequences over the choice to serve God or the flesh and Satan!

Re 22:17  “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”

They once had a Baptist president called Harry Truman, To whom some people said: ‘give them hell Harry!’   Harry Truman responded, ‘I do not give people hell I give them the truth and they think it is hell!’ Now I cannot say if Truman gave the truth or not, but many men saved and lost think the truth, to be hell!

1Co 2:14  “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

Emerging churches are fluid, hard to define, and varied; they contrast themselves with what has gone before by using the term "inherited church." There are three categories within the Movement: Relevants, Reconstructionists and Revisionists.

Relevants are theological conservatives who are interested in updating to current culture.

2Co 11:4  “For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”

Reconstructionists are generally theologically evangelical, and speak of new forms of church that result in transformed lives.

2Th 2:13   “But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.”

Revisionists are theologically liberal, and openly question whether evangelical doctrine is appropriate for the postmodern world.

Ga 1:8  “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”

The term "emerging church" was first used in 1970, when Larson and Osborne predicted a movement characterized by: contextual and experimental mission; new forms of church; the removal of barriers and division; a blend of evangelism and social action; attention to both experience and tradition.

Tit 1:9  “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.”

The term emergent church was also used in 1981 by Catholic political theologian, Johann Baptist Metz, for use in a different context.  "The emerging paradigm has been visible for well over a hundred years. In the last twenty to thirty years, it has become a major grassroots movement among both laity and clergy in "mainline" or "old mainline" Protestant denominations." He describes it as: "a way of seeing the Bible (and the Christian tradition as a whole) as historical, metaphorical, and sacramental, [and] a way of seeing the Christian life as relational  and transformational.”

Re 17:2  “With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”

Some core values in the emerging church, including desires to imitate the life of Jesus which is certainly not the truth if he is a effeminate long-haired hippy on a cross!

Ro 13:14  “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”

Transform secular society; emphasize communal living; welcome outsiders; be generous and creative; and lead without control.

Mt 8:8  “The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”

What occurs in Acts is spirit lead, not emotionally driven by the flesh!

Ac 4:32  “And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.” (saved, voluntary no government agency)

The emerging church is a hippy church that embraces international Socialism and desires to have the state take and redistribute wealth to it!

Lu 6:46  “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”

The emerging church neglects Godly responsibility!

2Th 3:10  “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.”

The emerging church pays no head to the character of New Testament doctrine!

Ro 13:8  “Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.”

The Emerging Church is centered on a combination of models of Church and of Contextual Theology that draw on this Trinitarian base: the Mystical Communion and Sacramental models of Church, and the Synthetic and Transcendent models of Contextual Theology.

Col 2:8  “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

The Sacrifice of Fools - Sermon notes by Rev. George Burkinshaw

Ec 5:1  “Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be
more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.”

The road to hell and destruction are paved with positive,
Presumptuous, intentions from the imagination of man's heart.

Jer 13:10  “This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which
walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.”

The biblical truth is that every sacrifice to God that is out of
the will of the LORD and the revealed truth of God's word; is simply not accepted of him; and is evil in his sight! As this age comes to its end, is it not as when the last age came to its end?

Mal 1:6  “A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if
then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name? 7 Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible. 8 And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts. 9 And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts. 10 Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nought? neither do ye kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.”

Satan’s temptation of the Lord Jesus Christ was far more reaching than understood by the casual reader of scripture; however the scholar and the body of Jesus Christ often miss the obvious truth of tempting the Lord in the sin of presumption!

Lu 4:9  “And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”

PRESUMPTION: Is an unreasonable unbiblical confidence in divine
favor. A blind or headstrong confidence that is unreasonable,
adventurousness; a venturing to undertake something without reasonable prospect of success, or against the usual probabilities of safety; such are presumptuous sins.

Mal 1:14  “But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a
male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.”

To tempt is to incite or solicit to an evil act; to entice to
something wrong by presenting arguments that are plausible or convincing, or by the offer of some pleasure or apparent advantage as the inducement.

Ps 19:13  “Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let
them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be
innocent from the great transgression.”

Such is the wicked way that many puffed up, presumptuous Evangelists and Pastors are calling naive young men to the Gospel ministry; in the emotional excitement and folly of vain glory the gain of false honor!

Ga 5:26  “Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one
another, envying one another.”

Such evil, ungodly ministries are pregnant with fleshly desires of
gain rather than the knowledge of Jesus Christ! This generation seeks to be somebody; rather that to be a servant to somebody most glorious as the servant of men; Christ Jesus the Lord!

Mt 11:29  “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

Not only is their calling of naive young men to the Gospel ministry
abominable, but their congregations are only set on gain rather than God!

1Ti 6:5  “Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”

The Lord contended with this same foul spirit of the flesh when
they sought the filling of the belly over the need of the soul!

Joh 6:26  “Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.”

The Gospel minister of Jesus Christ is not to be a dynamic leader,
but a humble servant of the true and living God!

2Ti 2:24  “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient”

The calling of the ministry of Jesus Christ is not to be in the
pride of gain, but in the humility of surrender to the divine will!

Ac 9:16  “For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.”

The ministry of the Gospel for the servant of the Lord and the
surrendered church member is a covenant of sacrifice found in the sacrifice  of the cross of Christ!

Ps 50:5  “Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”

Those who look upon the glory man and not upon the glory of the
Lord are vain man worshipers, with a gaze on Hell’s deception not on Heaven's glory!

Jer 9:23  “Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his
wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: 24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.”

Today and for many years now, I have watched many a Gospel
minister wilt, compromise and quit under a savage and merciless rejection of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and of the truth of his sacred and eternal word!

Isa 53:3  “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”

So why would any gospel minister serving the Lord Jesus Christ in
the humility of his cross; exhort anyone in the excitement of vain glory and selfish gain, when our cross as a servant or member of the body is to suffer our lords rejection?

Mt 10:37  “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not
worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.”

As those who have been redeemed unto eternal life in the cross of Jesus Christ, we  are to put on Christ and serve God with our lives.  That is the will of God for our lives after our salvation; to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and savior!  Not in the Glory of self enamored men who glory in themselves!

2Pe 3:18  “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”

Sadly, today many pastors and evangelists do not even know the difference between being a servant of God and the servitude of the congregation!

1Ti 1:12  “And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry”

A man that is led or called of God simply cannot enter the ministry of his own will, he must be enabled of the LORD in humility; accepting his cross!

Ga 6:14  “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of
our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.”

A godly humility, peace, and joy is the mark of the servant enabled of Jesus Christ to have the maturity to be a Christ-like spectacle to those who are under his preaching and teaching, and to behold his servitude to his LORD!

1Co 4:9  “For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.”

The servant of the lord is set to be a spectacle, bearing his cross,
as the Lord Jesus Christ was a spectacle to everyone as he suffered on  His cross!

1Ti 3:1   “This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a
bishop, he desireth a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to
hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of
filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4 One that ruleth
well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5
(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) 6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.”

It must be a God given desire for servitude of the Lord and not a
Man-driven inspiration for vain glory and gain!

1Ti 3:1  “This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.”

1Ti 3:2  “A bishop then must be blameless”

BLAMELESS.  Without fault; innocent; guiltless; not meriting
censure.

A servant must take out the garbage, if he does so he is blameless, though not sinless! If on occasion he fails his LORD’s will and repents before corruption sets; he may find grace.  If too many roots of bitterness corrupt his soul, he will be at fault and defiled!

Heb 12:15  “Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled”

        THE HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE

Eph 5:25  “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it”

There are several revelations of the LORD to the man who is
enabled of Christ for the supernatural joy of the LORD, to sedate the deep pain and sorrow found in the rejection of the cross of Jesus Christ! The first is to love your wife as Christ loved the church; not as most ministers love their wives as needful, but rather as a gift from God!

1Co 7:15 “But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother
or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.”

If you love your wife as Christ loved the church and she leaves you because of the Lord, rejoice.  The LORD will bless you with a godly wife and a ministry of truth! If your wife leaves you because of you, get out of the ministry, you do not have the heart for it!

Mt 18:35  “So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.”

Your forgiveness of you brother’s trespass does not remove his/her accountability to God.  It removes the root of bitterness that will defile your walk!  If a saint is defiled by roots of bitterness, they cannot serve Jesus Christ from the heart.

Eph 6:6  “Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart”

        VIGILANT:

Watchful; circumspect; attentive to discover and avoid danger, or to provide for safety. Take your places and be vigilant.  Be sober, be vigilant.

2Ti 4:3  “For the time will come when they will not endure sound
doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”

Loving your wife as Christ love the church, forgiving men their
Trespasses, and sound doctrine are the three revelations of God to his servants to receive his peace and Joy. Why should God send any man his peace and joy to enable him to endure affliction for the propagating of fables and living lies?

Jer 23:32  “Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.”

To learn how to rightly divide the word, I recommend: Dispensational Truths by Clarence Larkin and...
The Bible Believers Guide to Dispensationalist by David E. Walker.

2Ti 2:15  “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

After learning to rightly divide the Word and getting to know the
Book, the rest of a saint’s, and most of all the servant of the Lord’s life; is to be spent to know and learn of the God that wrote the Book!

Jer 24:7  “And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.”

OF GOOD BEHAVIOUR (Good behavior in the house of God is a
command)

1Ti 3:15  “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou
oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”

        GIVEN TO HOSPITALITY

Ac 20:35  “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

        APT TO TEACH:

To instruct; to inform; to communicate to another the knowledge of that of which he was before ignorant.

1Ti 4:10  “For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. 11 These things command and teach.”

1Ti 3:3 NOT GIVEN TO WINE

God gives his peace and his joy to those Christians who walk in the
spirit to endure the trials and rejection of life, as they are strengthened by enduring chastisement!

Eph 5:18  “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be
filled with the Spirit”

        NO STRIKER

It is very good to have a temper; it is only sin to lose it! The man
enabled of God is to have a temper and a very strong one at that;  a temper that is hardened against sin and unrighteousness!

Jas 1:20  “For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.”

A man of God must, at times and in proper authority, discipline the unruly.  However, he is to be moderate and not vengeful or vindictive!  See how he who could have called ten thousand angels, only used a scourge to drive out the money changers.

Joh 2:15  “And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; 16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. 17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.”

        NOT GREEDY OF FILTHY LUCRE

The sin of the hireling is to use the ministry for gain as Gehazi!

2Ki 5:26  “And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?27 The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.”

It is not a sin to work in order to stay in the ministry. The Apostle Paul did!

Ac 20:34  “Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.”

In all labor that is in the will of God; the laborer is worth of his
hire!

Pr 28:20  “A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that
maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.”

        BUT PATIENT

Lu 21:19 “In your patience possess ye your souls.”

        NOT A BRAWLER:

        A noisy quarreling fellow

Pr 15:1  “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. not covetous”

        Godly love must be very strong and firm in grace and truth;
uncompromising, but not malicious and brutish!

1Ti 3:4 “ONE THAT RULETH WELL HIS OWN HOUSE, having his children in subjection with all gravity”

A house not under God's control is simply out of control!

1Ti 3:5  “(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)”

Children living in the home after a godly manner testify clearly to
a man's diligence in  his servitude to Jesus Christ!

Pr 12:24  “The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the
slothful shall be under tribute.”

Children living in the home out of control reveal revelations of
spiritual declension!

Jer 5:31  “The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?”

Eli lost his house, children and ministry because he would not
restrain his children.

1Ti 3:6  “Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into
the condemnation of the devil.”

A novice is one who is new in any business; one unacquainted or
unskilled; one in the rudiments; a beginner.

Mt 13:55  “Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?”

The lord Jesus Christ entered the ministry at about thirty years of age, after a servitude of about eighteen years in Josephs carpenter shop!

Mt 20:28  “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

The priests did not start service until thirty years of age! After
thirty sacrificial years in the congregation of the LORD, learning of the LORD!

Nu 4:23  “From thirty years old and upward until fifty years old
shalt thou number them; all that enter in to perform the service, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.”

I believe it would be very unwise to even consider ordaining men into the gospel ministry who have not yet had the responsibility of a wife and previously maintained a humbling service in a local church for a full number of godly years.

1Ti 3:7  “Moreover he must have a good report of them which are
without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.”

The Lord Jesus Christ is the bishop of our souls.  As the head of the church, he came and suffered as a servant, and was obedient unto the death of the cross!

1Pe 2:25  “For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”

If we are to be Shepherds and Bishop's before the Shepherd and
Bishop of our soul, should we not seek and desire his person and spirit? Is this not what we must teach those who we are called to minister unto?

Heb 7:26  “For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens”

Whose spirit comes from the pastors of the lords flocks?

Jer 10:21  “For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.”
